Loren Dolge searches for any remnants in the ashes of his burned home outside of Brewster. It was a log home that he had built from trees off his land that he hoped to pass down to his grandchildren.

On July 18, 2014, the Community Foundation of NCW established its first Fire Relief Fund to support families and individuals affected by the Carlton Complex fires.

We continue to work with other relief funders along with our regional nonprofit partners to effectively serve the victims in helping them rebuild their lives.

How You Have Helped

The Community Foundation invested $100,000 from our general fund to employ Disaster Case Managers that work one-on-one with fire victims to help them navigate resources and options, such as financial aid, housing, and other important needs.

These Disaster Case Managers are located at Okanogan County Community Action Council in Okanogan and Room One in Twisp.

We continue to work closely with the case managers as they determine needs for victims and collaborate with other funding agencies to ensure fair and equitable disbursement of  your donations.

This kind of disaster recovery can take months, even years. The NCW Fire Relief Fund was established to ensure that resources are available for the long haul, and that people get the help they need to get back on their feet.

100% of your contribution has gone toward helping those affected by the fires – we do not take administrative fees on relief funds.

The foundation is a tax-exempt public charity, so you will receive a tax-deductible receipt with your contribution. Our Federal ID number is 91-1349486.

They Still Need Your Help

We are still working with case managers to serve those affected by the Carlton Complex fires. Gifts to the fund may also help other wildfire relief efforts in the region.

One particular need that is immediate is fencing materials and help to replace fencing. Many fires have burned up fencing to keep animals in and predators out. Barbed wire and field fence, plus poles.

Thanks, Kirsten for letting us know this. Will spread the word! Is the Methow Valley Community Center collecting anything like this or other items?

Is there a specific fund set up to help with animal rescue?

        Hi Diana,
We are able to support service agencies that need assistance for animal rescue, but we haven’t received any requests for it. You may want to contact the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society to get the latest update. Thanks for thinking of our furry friends!

Does any money go to support the efforts to put the fires out?
They seem undermanned and I expect over budget.

      Hi Jacob,
We are hearing that the firefighters are receiving the financial support they need from government agencies, including FEMA. We haven’t received any requests to support that effort at this time. You can check out our Fire Relief Resource page for more information on service agencies supporting fire victims or our Facebook page for updates.

HI. Thank you for your efforts and support for the communities in this region. Will the money which will be donated for the Okanogan Complex fires also go to those who lost homes in the Tunk and Northstar fires?

      Hi Karen,
I’m not sure where those fires are geographically, but the Okanogan Complex Fire Relief Fund will support the communities of Twisp, Riverside, Omak, Nespellem, Black Canyon, Squaw Creek and Nine Mile, Conconully, and Ferry County.
      Hope that helps!
      Jennifer
