Children’s Home Society Receives $50,000 Endowment Grant

The Community Foundation of NCW has chosen the Children’s Home Society to receive the $50,000 Endowment Grant award. Offered every other year, the endowment grant provides annual income to the nonprofit organization in perpetuity. As the fund grows and donations are added, that annual stream of income increases and helps to sustain the organization for generations.

The Children’s Home Society receives a $50,000 Endowment Grant to support the Wenatchee location.

Children’s Home Society is a state-wide organization established in 1896 with a mission to develop healthy children, create strong families, build engaged communities, and speak and advocate for children. They offer several programs, including: Parent and Child Counseling/Mental Health Services; Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption; Readiness to Learn to support struggling students; Truancy Intervention; and Home Based Services, providing early childhood home visiting/education program. The grant will specifically support the work through Wenatchee location.

“Children’s Home Society of Washington Wenatchee is so thrilled, honored and very grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with the Community Foundation of North Central Washington” said Alejandra Gonzalez, executive director. “This endowment will allow us to accomplish our mission to support children and their families  in our community as well as to inspire hope for future generations through a broader presence in our community.”

There were two other finalists for the grant: the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society and Mobile Meals of Wenatchee. “The decision was very hard this year” said Denise Sorom, director of community philanthropy at the foundation. “We had three extraordinary organizations as finalists, all serving very different but important missions. We are so proud of their outstanding contributions to our region and the many ways they make our valley a better place to live.”

The next Endowment Grant is open to nonprofits in Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan Counties. The next opportunity to apply is February 1, 2018.

Due to being rural, remote, and geographically isolated, we must be prepared to do more than respond to emergencies. We have become a healthcare partner who fills gaps in service. The grant allowed our board the time and ability to work with a Strategic Planner to modify our plan to address those gaps.

My father was a migrant agricultural worker who eventually started his own cherry and apple orchard. He told me if I wanted to live a better life, I had to get an education. I plan on starting a career with the Chelan PUD with a passion for renewable energy and in turn give back to my parents and community for supporting my dreams.
